Thank you for another wonderful and robust meeting. And a big thank you to all of our amazing presenters! As a reminder, the next SNOAC meeting will be Thursday, July 16th from 10am-12pm.     • About: The State of Nevada is conducting a survey that will guide Nevada’s spending of opioid settlement dollars for the next 4 years. All responses are anonymous and all data is kept confidential. The survey will close soon so please complete ASAP.

  • 2026 Southern Nevada Substance Misuse and Overdose Prevention Summit

    • About: Hope is so much more than just a feeling. It is a goal, a motivator and a strategy. Research has discovered that hope is also a science- a measurable, teachable, and evidence-based driver of resilience and recovery. Hope strengthens pathways to prevention, supports lifesaving rescue efforts, sustains engagement in treatment, and empowers long-term recovery. Join us at the 7th annual Southern Nevada Substance Misuse and Overdose Prevention Summit, The Science of Hope: Strategies to Reduce Substance use and Build Resilience in Our Community, as we collaborate on how embedding the science of hope into policy, practice, and partnerships can have a positive impact on ourselves, the people we serve and our communities.

      • We are excited to invite submissions for workshops at our upcoming summit, The Science of Hope: Strategies to Reduce Substance Use and Build Resilience in Our Community. We invite experts, practitioners, and community leaders to submit proposals that explore innovative strategies to reduce substance use and build resilience. This is an exceptional opportunity to share your knowledge and contribute to meaningful change in our communities. All selected speakers will receive a scholarship covering the cost of registration for the summit, though please note that travel expenses are not included.   • The 2025 YRBS Data is now available!

    • About: On behalf of the Nevada Department of Education and the Nevada Division of Public and Behavioral Health (DPBH), the University of Nevada, Reno's School of Public Health administers the Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS). The YRBS is a survey of adolescent health behaviors and provides critical information to help us understand the health and well-being of youth in Nevada.

  • Behavioral Health Association of Nevada Las Vegas Reception for National Mental Health Awareness Month

Educational Opportunities:

  • Contingency Management Overview Training (**FOR CLARK COUNTY PROVIDERS ONLY**)

    • Date: Tuesday, April 28th from 1p-3pm

    • Location: Virtual via Zoom

    • Cost: Free

    • About: Contingency management (CM) is an evidence-based intervention for treating stimulant use disorder (StimUD). It offers monetary incentives, like gift cards, for achieving treatment goals, such as abstaining from stimulants, verified by urine drug tests. By using positive reinforcement, CM encourages individuals to replace stimulant use with financial rewards that activate the brain's reward system. This two-hour training workshop provides an overview of CM as a behavioral intervention for StimUD treatment.

  • Adult Mental Health First Aid

    • Date: Wednesday, April 29th from 8:30a to 4:30p

    • Location: Virtual

    • Cost: Free

    • About: Mental Health First Aid is a course that teaches you how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders. The training gives you the skills you need to reach out and provide initial help and support to individuals. The course takes one full day and requires 2-3 hours of pre-work before attending.

  • Criminal Justice Skills Training: Alcohol & Substance Use Screening, Prevention, and Brief Intervention

    • Date: Thursday, April 30th from 9am-12pm

    • Location: University of Nevada Cooperative Extension (8050 Paradise Road, Las Vegas, NV, 89123)

    • Cost: Free

    • About: This three-hour interactive workshop trains criminal justice professionals to identify, prevent, and respond to unhealthy alcohol and substance use among individuals in the justice system. Tailored for staff in corrections, probation, and parole, it combines foundational education with hands-on practice using validated screening tools and brief intervention strategies. Participants will learn Motivational Interviewing techniques, support behavior change, and address systemic barriers to care. The workshop also emphasizes stigma reduction and improving referral pathways. By the end, attendees will gain confidence and practical skills for immediate application in their roles.
