Follow Up: SNOAC 2025 Q3 General Meeting

Good afternoon SNOAC Community,

Thank you so much for another robust meeting! As a reminder, the next SNOAC meeting will be Thursday, November 6th from 10a-12p. As with previous meetings, this meeting will be hybrid and you can attend in-person at Roseman University (1 Breakthrough Way Las Vegas, NV 89135) or virtually via Zoom. Below, you will find community updates and materials from our previous meeting:

 

Meeting Follow Up:

  • Attorney General Aaron Ford Announces Solicitation of Interested Persons for Appointment to Substance Use Advisory Bodies

    • About: Nevada Attorney General Aaron D. Ford announced that he will appoint six members across two important advisory bodies: the Substance Use Response Group (SURG) and the Advisory Committee on Resiliency and Nevada (ACRN). Members serve volunteer terms and are not compensated for their time.

    • The following members will be appointed to the SURG:

      • One member who works in emergency response services; and

      • One member of the general public.

    • The following members will be appointed to the ACRN:

      • One member who possesses knowledge, skills, and experience working with youth in the juvenile justice system;

      • One member who possesses knowledge, skills, and experience working with persons in the criminal justice system;

      • One member who possesses knowledge, skills, and experience in the surveillance of overdoses; and

      • One member who resides in a county other than Clark or Washoe County and has experience having a substance use disorder or having a family member who has a substance use disorder.

    • Those interested in serving should email Terry Kerns, Substance Abuse/Law Enforcement Coordinator at TKerns@ag.nv.gov with their name, contact information, and the position they wish to be considered for by 5:00 p.m. Friday, July 18, 2025.

  • Save the Date: 6th Annual Southern Nevada Substance Misuse and Overdose Prevention Summit- WORKSHOPS ARE UP ON THE WEBSITE!

    • Date: Thursday, August 14 from 8am-5pm

    • Location: Strip View Pavilion at UNLV (4505 S Maryland Pkwy. Las Vegas, NV 89154)

    • Cost: $25 per person; Scholarships available!

    • About: Substance use and overdose prevention is a syndemic issue that requires us to work across inter-related fields, including psychological health, trauma, disability, suicide, and violence. To effectively serve our community and clients, collaboration across programs, services, and funding sources is crucial, and a multidisciplinary approach is essential to address core issues and provide comprehensive, holistic services for individuals' needs. You are invited to join us for the 2025 Southern Nevada Substance Misuse and Overdose Prevention Summit, Harmonization: A block party on the corner of healing and collaboration, where everyone has a seat at the table. During this event, engage in thought-provoking discussions, participate in interactive workshops, and gain invaluable insights into how we all bring valuable ideas, perspectives, and knowledge to this work. By working together, we can reduce substance use and ultimately end overdose, fostering a healthier and safer community for all.

  • Community Resource Sharing Meeting

  • International Overdose Awareness Day

    • Date: Saturday, August 30th from 5:30p to 7pm

    • Location: Foundation for Recovery (4800 Alpine Place #12, LV NV 89108)

    • Cost: Free

    • About: This International Overdose Awareness Day, we come together as one big family to take action on overdose. Join us for a Free community event to honor those we have lost to overdose and support those still living affected by substance use. Vendors, Speakers, Overdose Prevention training, Narcan distribution, fentanyl/xylazine test strips training and distribution, Soles 4 Souls shoe exhibit and Candlelight vigil and remembrance table

  • Save a Life Day

    • Date: Friday, September 26th all day

    • Location: Various locations around the valley

    • Cost: Free

    • About: On Sep 26th, 2025, communities across the country to are powering up to host the largest day of naloxone distribution to date. Join agencies here in Southern Nevada in distributing naloxone to members of our community to end overdose deaths.

  • 2025 Mobilize Recovery: Campus Surge

    • Date: Friday, September 26, 2025 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM

    • Location: UNLV (4505 S Maryland Pkwy. Las Vegas, NV 89154)

    • About: Mobilize Recovery is bringing the Campus Surge 2025 initiative to the University of Nevada, Las Vegas as part of a nationwide effort to address the challenges of substance use and mental health among college students. This event that will be held in the Student Union (Ballroom A), aims to raise awareness, provide resources, and empower students to become advocates for recovery within their communities.​ There will be special guests, panel discussions, free food, and more!

  • Narcan at Night

    • Date: Saturday, September 27th at 5pm

    • Location: Las Vegas, NV (The Strip and surrounding area)

    • About: Narcan at Night is more than just an event—it's a movement to save lives and uplift the community. Join us on Saturday, September 27th at 5:00 PM as we hit the Las Vegas Strip, Downtown Las Vegas and the surrounding areas to distribute free overdose prevention and response kits. This is one of the largest Narcan distribution events in the country, and you can be part of it. Whether you're a seasoned volunteer or completely new to harm reduction work, your time and energy can make a real difference. You'll help educate people on how to respond in an overdose situation—because you never know when you might be the one who can save a life. Expect an evening that’s energizing, inspiring, and surprisingly fun. We believe doing good should feel good, too. You'll meet amazing people, walk the iconic Strip with purpose, and leave knowing you helped change lives—maybe even save them.

  • There is No Hero in Heroin Updates

    • Update 1: TINHIH now accepts uninsured and undocumented individuals- both adults and adolescents for services. Everyone deserves access to compassionate, confidential care- regardless of insurance or immigration status.

    • Update 2: Substance Use Disorder Adolescent Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) now available! TINHIH is proud to announce their Adolescent IOP program launched on May 5th of 2025. It is a short-term treatment program designed for adolescents ages 12-17 years old who may be struggling in their day-to-day lives due to substance use. Groups are led by their compassionate and experienced counselors.

  • Community Health Worker Certification- Fully Funded Training Available!

    • About: This training takes a critical look at the history of the substance misuse movement and its impact on recovery and health equity in our community. This workshop will introduce the concepts of social inequalities faced by people who use drugs, the stigma they experience, and how this impacts their ability to access services.

  • Healthy Living, Sustainable Recovery: An Integrated Health and Nutrition Approach to Enhance Treatment/Recovery Services

    • Date: Tuesday, August 19th to Wednesday, August 20th from 9a-4pm

    • Location: Virtual via Zoom

    • About: This training will address integrated, core issues related to nutrition and health that impact recovery outcomes for individuals with substance use disorders. This training will also highlight unique recovery challenges women face related to the type of substances they use more often, reasons for this use and factors affecting reoccurrence. These include weight concerns, dieting and metabolism, eating pathology, and body dissatisfaction.

  • Overdose Response with Naloxone Training of Trainers

    • Date: Thursday, September 25th from 1:30p-5pm

    • Location: Southern Nevada Health District (280 S. Decatur Blvd. Las Vegas, NV 89107)

    • Cost: Free

    • About: THIS EVENT IS PRIVATE AND OFFERED BY INVITATION ONLY - This class is open to trainers who wish to become educated with current information about the illicit drug supply in our community and the current best practices for reversing overdoses. At the end of this training, you should be equipped with the knowledge and tools to train others in overdose response with naloxone, understand opioids and their effects, and educate others on common myths regarding drug overdose and fentanyl. Prerequisite work is required and will be sent by email.

  • Harm Reduction Symposium

    • Date: Wednesday, October 8th from 8a-5p

    • About: Join us for a full day training to discuss harm reduction and its role in working with people who use drugs. We will discuss: harm reduction a personal safety strategy, harm reduction as a moment, the principles of harm reduction, risk and protective factors for substance use, drug-related stigma, impact of drug-related stigma on recovery, medicated assisted treatment, and so much more! This full day will be jam packed and interactive for participants. Lunch will not be provided and will be on your own.

  • NaRCAD’s Virtual AD Techniques Training Class

    • Date: September 16-18th from 1pm-5pm EST daily
